Arabella Grayson on Donald Hendricks

Author and paper doll collector Arabella Grayson has written an excellent essay about Hendricks' research into Sally Hemings, an enslaved woman of mixed race who belonged to Thomas Jefferson -- and bore him four children.

  1. Thank you for sharing this. I did not know Donald Hendricks had passed. I own the Sally Hemings paper doll, which was purchased directly from Mr. Hendricks in approximately 2006. Hendricks and I communicated back and forth by email discussing the Hemings paper doll. It is featured on pages 344 and 345 of my book, Black Dolls: A Comprehensive Guide to Celebrating, Collecting, and Experiencing the Passion.
